Animal Breeding and Genomics centre, Wageningen University
The Animal Breeding and Genomics centre (ABGC) at Wageningen University is an enthusiastic and ambitious team of 40 scientists (including 10 postdocs and 20 PhD students) which combines expertise in quantitative, statistical and molecular genetics related to genetic improvement of animals. ABGC contributes to our quality of life by providing knowledge to support the adequate supply of safe and healthy food of animal origin, and to enhance the health, welfare and productivity of animals. This includes research on the importance of social interactions, on opportunities to improve product quality and health traits and on optimization of breeding schemes in fish. ABGC studies genetic variation in farm and companions animals, and examines opportunities to use naturally occurring genetic variation in selection schemes.
